Shaker Two Drawer Blanket Chest

A rare example of one of the earliest forms of Shaker case furniture. Having an applied molded lift lid above a rectangular case, the upper section fitted with two tills, the lower section fitted with two molded lipped dovetailed drawers on the horizontal plane. The base is formed by having the side boards extended with a "cupids bow" cut out. Pine retaining an old red painted surface over an older or original red painted surface. Knobs replaced in the original form and a minor lip repair. Canterbury, New Hampshire. Circa 1820-30.
