A rare example of a sophisticated Newport, Rhode Island chair, having very early design elements; crest rail, turned spindles, arm supports and medial stretcher, coupled with evolutionary elements; hand terminals and legs. Maple, pine and either ash, hickory or oak, retaining an old brown grain painted surface. Circa 1780.
